Axamer Lizum

The Austrian Alps... BAM!

On our first full day in Innsbruck, which happened to double as our 2nd Wedding Anniversary, we headed to the top of the world.  Well, not actually the top but as close as you can get near Innsbruck: AXAMER LIZUM.  The mountain is one of the most famous ski spots in the Alps, having hosted the Olympic downhill competition in 1964 and 1976, and is also just a 20 minute ride from downtown.

Fresh powder.  Stop drooling Matt Epperson.

A lone skier heading looks tiny compared to the craggy spires above.  Editor's Note: The use of  "Craggy spires" is simply an attempt by this author to sound more qualified than he actually is at describing mountains.

From the base of the hill you can take a train sort of device directly up tracks and to a 360 degree view of the spectacular scenery.  There is a glassed-in restaurant and bar that serves a variety of German and Italian fare, the perfect place to relax!  I opted for a little spaghetti bolognese and was reminded about all those meals back in Italy.

A mountaintop view and an Alpine Vibe.

Innsbruck is one of only three cities to have hosted the Winter Olympics more than one time.  For a free cappuccino, name the other two!

Feeling at home at our new home.
