Cannoli BCS Rankings

#1 Ranked Savia.  'Nuff said. Photo Credit: George Contreras.

With two weeks under our belt, it is now time to release the first official Cannoli BCS Poll.  The Cannoli BCS was established to create a clear cut Cannoli favorite, and involves a complex formula that takes into account size, cost, filling, shell, degree of slant, topping, powdered sugar, and strength of schedule (hours of operation).  After the season, the top two will meet in the inaugural BCS Championship in a head to head taste-off.

George Contreras, who votes in the USA Today Cannoli Coaches Poll, thinks this will finally be an answer to who is #1, "Until we have a true play-off system, the BCS is our best way get the two best Cannoli together.  Before this, an undefeated Cannoli might not even be considered best if it had yet to be tasted by Americans."

Catania Elephants head coach, Davide Giuliano, who has never been an advocate of Cannoli rankings, thinks such as system puts to much pressure on players, "We are trying to prepare for a season, and these rankings have our players completely psyched-out.  I mean, Matt "Obi-Won Cannoli" Epperson, just hears the "C" word and his hands start to shake.  From now on, we are just trying to stay focused and give it 110% percent."

Current BCS Cannoli Rankings

1. Savia -- The ultimate.  A little more expensive (2 Euro vs. normal 1.80) but worth every penny.  The top ranking was secured due to overall size (largest), perfect shell, and a large SLANT topped with the most pistachio.  Savia has a big non-conference contest against Bellini Gelato next week that could secure its place on top of the polls.

2. Ernesto's -- A close second.  More of a finesse Cannoli, The key to Ernesto's is a very light, crisp shell - which voter's have stated play a major impact in overall taste, as the Ricotta filling is generally equal among top competitors.

3. Etoile D'Or -- The sight of my first Cannoli, and a major contributor in Matt Epperson's addiction -- however a recent lack of customer service has seen it slip out of the top 2.

The starting line for Etoile D'Or.

4. Menza -- A consistent performer who relies on strong Ricotta.  Not quite the crispness of Ernesto's, but a strong slant nonetheless.  They meet Savia next week in a critical matchup.

Also receiving votes:  Caffe de Centro (Enna), Cathedral Cafe (Cefalu), Spinella (Catania).

If this is anything like the other BCS, the cannoli ranked No. 3 will actually be the best of the bunch.
