I'm envious reading most of your posts, but particularly with this one, since my first visit to Italy (2004) began in Sorrento and Positano. Just wonderful places. If you get back during your stay, take the boat from Sorrento to Positano. Not only is it a wonderful trip, but the photo op going into the dock in Positano is the best postcard shot of the town.
So were there weddings going on in Positano when you were there? In 2004, some wealthy couple was married there and rented the beach for the reception, and when I tried to go back last year, every hotel and pensione in town was booked because of weddings.
