FUN-DO BIANCO

The Elephants Banner is unveiled inside of Fondo Bianco!

My 200th Post – a big “THANK YOU” to the crew from FONDO BIANCO!

 The crew at the game.

Sunday afternoon’s victory over the Corsari was a little extra special, as it was done in front of a growing number of our home fans.  In particular, the crew from Matt & Brandon’s favorite local hangout, FONDO BIANCO (which stands for 'white bottom' or more literally, 'empty glass'), came to the game armed with a huge banner as well as pre-game fireworks/ smokeshow!  It was insane… and definitely got us ready to play!

Catania Colors Smoking in the Wind!

We have had a growing relationship with Fondo Bianco since our first night in town, when owner Atilio bonded with Brandon over similar tattoos and taste of motorcycles.  Brandon now goes by the nickname "Big Bianco" and is essentially the "NORM" of the local hotspot.

After the blowout, they were so impressed that they boasted the only way a bar-owner knows how to do it: a ruckus post-game celebration!  We arrived on the scene around midnight, and were greeted by the entire team and regulars chanting songs and dancing on tables.  Outside of the typical debauchery, which included the customary ‘open-mouth tequila pour,’ there was actually a touching moment later in the night that illustrated the positive effect we are hoping to bring to the community here with our version of American Football.

The typically boisterous Atilio silenced the bar and began an emotional soliloquy as to the passion and pride displayed by the Elephants.  While typically a stark Calcio (soccer) supporter, he said the heart displayed by the Elephants was in sharp contrast to the sometimes “mercenary” approach by high-paid soccer players who do not honor the jersey but the money.  (This of course backed by the re-dedication of a local folk song in memory of the Elephants.)

While listed in one guidebook as the ‘foremost authority on shots and exotic cocktails’ in Catania, Fondo Bianco is a Catania based “Cheers” equivalent if you are ever in town.  Check them out online at www.fondobianco.it or just around the corner from Piazza Bellini!
