Amsterdam... more water than you can imagine! It's like Venice on...
We arrived yesterday evening for 3 days in Holland... The Netherlands... Amsterdam... SO MANY NAMES - ONE GREAT PLACE!
Picking us up from the airport is our host for the trip - Mr. Eric Verhoeven, who goes by a number of nicknames (GREATEST!) but could be one of the nicest Dutchmen I have ever met. He may also be one of the only Dutchmen I have ever met. Eric is a soccer photographer who travels the world, and has joined us on numerous adventures in Canada, Las Vegas, and Italy.
We stayed at Eric's house on Monday night, getting a taste of 'rural' Holland, before heading into the city of Amsterdam for two days of fun. We had some great times with Eric, Bianca, and their 3 boys. Eric's Pasta Bolognese rivals anything I have tasted in Italy (seriously), and the Chianti Classico was as good as ever!
In the kitchen, clockwise from left Me, Eric, and Pepper - his great dog! Is that a Dutch Oven in the corner?
On our way to the train station in Eric's home city of Ermelo, we came across some curious Dutch Signs, as pictured below:
Despite sometimes sketchy weather, we had a great afternoon exploring the city of Amsterdam. I was blown away by the amount of water - over 100 canals and 1000 bridges! We shopped, enjoyed tea, and definitely made ourselves at home!
Trains, Boats... it doesn't matter! Eric is like a Dog... when he sees a window, he must stick his head out!
