Orange Glow fills the sky as Etna shoots out lava!
It sometimes strikes me as odd to look up at Mt. Etna, Sicily's famous volcano that looms over Catania, and say that, "Yeah... that's our volcano up there... just exploding everyday..."
While it sat dormant for the first 4 months of our trip, the last two months have been a fiery spectacle, with frequent (small) eruptions. Think of Etna like a tea pot - the "big one" doesn't come because it's always letting out steam. That being said, it is still mind-blowing to look at, even if the Sicilians no longer bat an eye when steaming hot molten lava is barreling towards one of their cities!
Last night's eruption was the most spectacular to date - as for the first time you could actually SEE the lava shooting out of a large crater on its Eastern slope. Check out the pics!
