MALTESE BUSSES!

The quintessential Maltese Bus!

While we did not have a chance to get up close and personal with a Maltese Falcon (excuse the 1940's film noir reference) or see any Maltese dogs, we did spent plenty of time on Malta's rumbling fleet of historic busses!

These orange and yellow monsters - imported back in the 1950s from England - are still (somehow) running today.  And while they do not boast air conditioning or even doors for that matter, they are a vintage piece of Malta that was very fun to experience!

Nothing like seeing the island "as a local"...

For the value of just 3 Euro per day, you can ride the bus system anywhere on the island.  There are no 'schedules' - just basic routes that run about every 10 minutes (or so... the Maltese got their sense of time from the Italians!)  Each bus is adorned with a patron saint in the front and as mentioned before, a driver with lots of "character."  If you take a trip to Malta, be sure to catch a ride on these moving monuments before they are replaced (sometime in the early 23rd century!)
