Crystal Clear Water at the closest point in Italy to Africa.
On Saturday we spent the day at ANOTHER amazing new beach on Sicily - the Isola delle Correnti near Portopalo. Literally translated as the "Island of Currents," this beach sits at the most southern point in all of Italy at Sicily's southeast corner, just past Pachino, at the point where the Mediterranean and Ionian Seas meet (hence the current and the name.)
Here we met a few of our Elephant teammates and their families for a great day in the sun - with a muddy twist!
Claudio, being an avid blog reader and familiar himself with our other beaches (code names: Hawaii, Mexico, and Caribbean), christened the new beach Puerto Rico - and I think he might just be right! The water was as warm as a bath, and shallow enough to walk almost two football fields into the water and still only be waist deep. I give it an overall 10+ for temperature, color, and exotic locale.
The Isola delle Correnti has seen more than its fair share of ships pass in its day - from Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, and now Italians.
However, the water is not the only attraction here as there is also a place for getting therapeutic mud to rub on your body! I'm not the biggest fan... but the others were in heaven!
