A LUCKY 4th of July

Having fun on the beach - Sicily Style!

When Americans think of the 4th of July, immediately patriotic blood pumps through their veins... along with thoughts of fireworks, parades, hot dogs, and apple pie.  However, all of that seems far away when living abroad here in Sicily... but "lucky" for us one of our great Sicilian friends invited us over for a new twist on American Independence Day!

Fortunato - call me "Lucky" - invited us on the 4th to his beautiful beach house in Letojanni (just north of Taormina) for a great day of sun, food, and relaxation.  Lucky has become a great friend of ours here, and is one of the undoubted leaders of the Elephants after logging over 20 seasons of American Football!  Along with his wife Federica and two great sons Daniele and Simone, we were treated to an amazing day that was one of the most memorable experiences here in Sicily!

Life's a beach in Letojanni...

In addition to teaching, Lucky is also a trainer, leading a class called GAG (an Italian Acronym for Gluteals, Abs, and Legs).  Christie attended Lucky's class many times while living here, and each time would limp home in soreness!  Thanks for kicking her butt, LUCKY!

It's normal (I guess) for random men in wetsuits to emerge out of the water where you are swimming carry all sorts of sea creatures he has caught.  Here, a local man was out catching Octopus... which Lucky showed off for us!

After getting our fill of UV Rays, we headed indoors for a great lunch.  My stomach has never been so full after working our way through homemade pasta, involtini, watermelon, and of course, GELATO!  What a feast!

The boys resting after the meal...

Maybe not RED, WHITE, and BLUE... but EVEN BETTER!!!  From left to right, meet my friends pistachio, noccolo, and bacio!

Thank you Lucky!  Not just for a great 4th of July, but for your friendship & for teaching me about being a great husband, father, and leader!  We will definitely take with us the Sicilian view of FAMILY!

After reading the list of wonderful food you had at lunch, I stoped on the way home last night for a Margareta Pizza at Panago hoping beyond hope that it might be even close to the pizza you can get in Italy. No such luck. I did however drool over the list of things you ate at lunch and vowed to either find a place in Edm that serves authentic Italian food or the other option is to go back to Italy. Which do you think would be the more reasonable route to take.

Lots of Love, Terry
